Why resin suits a path better than most

A path takes more footfall than any surface in the garden, so the finish that matters is one that stays flat, grippy and joint-free underfoot. That is exactly where resin-bound comes into its own.

Because the stone is bound all the way through the resin and trowelled flat, a resin path has no joints, no pointing and no loose gravel to scatter across the lawn or work into the house. It flows around curves, steps and tree bases in one continuous ribbon, which is difficult to achieve neatly with slabs or block.

The surface is fully permeable, so rain soaks straight through rather than pooling or running toward the house, and it is comfortable and predictable underfoot: no rocking slabs, no raised edges to catch a toe, and enough natural texture to stay sure-footed in the wet.

As with any resin surface, the finish is only as good as what sits beneath it. We lay every path on a properly prepared, free-draining base so it holds its line for years rather than sinking or cracking at the edges.

Why a resin path is a good option

The practical reasons homeowners choose resin for paths, side returns and garden walkways.

Seamless & trip-free

One continuous surface with no slab joints or raised edges, so nothing lifts, rocks or catches a foot.

Slip-resistant

Natural texture from the aggregate keeps it sure-footed in the wet, and we can add extra grip on shaded or sloping runs.

Follows any shape

Curves around borders, wraps steps and meets other surfaces cleanly, where cut slabs would leave awkward joints.

No weeds, no loose stone

A sealed, joint-free surface gives weeds nowhere to root and never sheds gravel onto the lawn or into the house.

Drains where it lies

Fully permeable, so a path never becomes a puddle or channels water toward the door.

Easy to keep clean

A quick sweep or rinse is all it takes, with no jointing sand to top up and nothing to reseal each year.

Paths we surface in resin

From the front approach to the far corner of the garden, resin ties a route together in one clean run.

Resin path FAQs

Is a resin path slippery when wet?
No more than any quality outdoor surface. The aggregate gives it natural texture, and on shaded or sloping paths where extra grip helps we can specify a coarser blend or an anti-slip additive. It has none of the sheen that makes wet, smooth slabs treacherous.
Can a resin path follow curves and go around trees?
Yes, and that is one of its biggest advantages. Because it is trowelled on site as a continuous surface, resin flows around curves, borders, steps and tree bases in one clean run, with none of the awkward cuts and joints you get laying slabs or block to a curve.
Will weeds grow through a resin path?
A properly laid resin-bound path is a sealed, joint-free surface, so there are no gaps for weeds to root in the way there are between slabs or blocks. The occasional windblown seed on the surface wipes away with a brush.
How narrow a path can you lay in resin?
We regularly lay paths and side returns well under a metre wide. Because there are no fixed slab sizes to work around, resin suits narrow, awkward or tapering runs where cutting paving neatly would be difficult.
Does a resin path need a solid base?
It needs a sound, free-draining base, yes, but not always a full dig-out. If your existing concrete or slab path is sound we can often overlay it; where the base is poor we build a new one. We tell you honestly which you need on the survey.
